They should be and remain in optimum condition just like the employees. Experience has taught us that the assets that are not tangible / visible, such as intellectual property rights (IP), are only partially maintained.

Holders of patents, image and / or name registrations, domain names and the like are often limited to paying the annual conservation costs. This means that maintenance is performed for many. But IE maintenance has much more to do. Consider, for example, the continuous updating of databases; the management of the risk of a trademark; growing a patent family or transferring and retaining knowledge.
